Educational Program “Papermaking School”

Educational Program "Papermaking School"

Basic program on papermaking, "Papermaking school" presents first program for professional training in "Academy of Papermaking". It is created in collaboration with experts from the industry and ICP.

The program

In the 93-hour educational program, spread across 14 modules, participants acquire various theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of papermaking.

The education program is enhanced with a new module "Material Compliance Verification and Product Life Span," where participants learn about legislation and compliance verification and understand what happens to a paper product during the recycling phase or its processing (biodegradation or composting).

Lectures are divided into individual modules where participants explore key areas of papermaking, such as the beginnings of papermaking, production, finishing and processing, various types of paper and their applications, printing technologies, energy, economics, and ecology, and the concept of product life span in the paper industry. Besides theoretical knowledge, participants also engage in computer simulation of processes and practical demonstrations of paper production on a pilot paper machine at the Institute of Pulp and Paper.

The program includes visits to paper production in participating companies with practical demonstrations of processes in the production of various products.

During the course, two intermediate written tests and a final examination are organized to confirm the participants' successfully acquired knowledge. Upon completion of the education, participants receive a certificate from the company management.

Organization and Contact

Program is implemented once a week in the afternoon for four school hours or according to agreement. A detailed schedule of each years’ program is adapted to the structure of participants from different companies.

Trainings are implemented in the premises of the Pulp and Paper Institute, Bogišićeva 8, Ljubljana with its laboratory and semi-industrial equipment which also allows for practical presentations and demonstrations of the procedures. Visits to all Slovenian paper mills is organized within the program thus enabling practical demonstrations of processes in the production of various products.

The number of participants in one group is limited to at least 12 and up to 25. Upon the request and if the minimum number of participants is reached, the implementation of the program could be organized in a particular region on a selected location.
